Meet Paul

SENIOR LAWYER, COLBORNE ALLYJAN LAW

Born in Nottingham, England, Paul Allyjan immigrated to Canada as a child, first settling in Grand Prairie, Alberta before relocating to Calgary. His early education in French Immersion programs provided him with a strong foundation, and he maintains conversational fluency in French to this day.

Paul completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor in History in 2000. He then pursued his legal education at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2003. During his time at law school, Paul demonstrated his commitment to community service through regular volunteer work with Student Legal Assistance.

After returning to Calgary to complete his articles with a prominent multi-provincial law firm, Paul was called to the Alberta Bar in 2004. In 2022, he further enhanced his professional credentials by becoming an accredited mediator. Throughout his career, Paul has focused primarily on Family Law, while also providing Real Estate and Will services to clients as complementary aspects of their Family Law matters.

Paul has built an impressive litigation record, successfully representing clients in trials at both the Alberta Court of Justice (formerly the Provincial Court of Alberta) and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta. His appellate experience includes successful appeals at the Court of King’s Bench, the Court of Appeal, and a favourable written application to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a dedicated advocate for access to justice, Paul has received numerous accolades for his volunteer work with Calgary Legal Guidance, including distinguished service awards and recognition as Volunteer of the Year in 2013. His expertise has been recognized by the Legal Education Society of Alberta, where he has presented on Appeals in Child Welfare cases. Paul’s leadership in the legal community extends to his service on the Legal Aid Regional Appeals Committee and subsequent appointment to the Legal Aid Super Committee
